Deer eat many indigenous plants. When Deer populations increase, indigenous plants decrease. Therefore, deer can be an enormous problem.

Deer also provide meat and were introduced to Haida Gwaii deliberately for hunting and food. Therefore, deer can also be an enormous benefit to islanders.
